MEN HAVE A PASSION TO RESCUE
In Richmond, California, something in a garage exploded and soon the adjoining house caught fire. Reportedly, since it was in a high crime area, the front porch was ringed with security bars. The doors couldn’t be opened without a key – even from the inside. Six people were trapped, because, in their panic, no one could find the key that unlocked the doors.
The kitchen was engulfed in flames when Sylvester Wiggins and his wife drove by. Wiggins screeched to a stop, ran to the house from which screams were sounding, and tried to kick in the door. It wouldn’t budge. There was a live, downed power line in the front yard, but Wiggins ignored it and kicked again. Nothing gave. He backed up then …

FINANCIAL PROBLEMS CAN SINK OR SAVE A MARRIAGE
Jordan and Jennifer were living high. Their parents warned them that if they didn’t stop, they would suffer severe consequences and their marriage would be in danger.
Essentially telling their two Dads and two Moms to mind their own business, Jordan and Jennifer joyfully refused to alter their habits. They went on expensive vacations, bought new furniture on a regular basis, and supplied their kids with designer clothes and every conceivable game and toy available. Furthermore, the couple helped anyone else in financial trouble, trying to appear rich and generous.

This isn’t about not talking. It’s about not talking about the wrong things. Some spouses simply cannot handle lurid truths about their sweethearts’ past.
Lee and Lila both were virgins until one day they became so passionate on a date that they had sex. In time they both married, but to different people. SURVIVING AN AFFAIR
Hailey hadn’t realized that Ryan had strayed, but she knew something wasn’t right between them. Did he love her anymore? She tried to remember the last time he told her so. Now it seemed he scarcely noticed her except when he wanted sex. She was scared. Really scared. Was she going to lose him? Prayer and tears punctuated her days.
When she found out about his affair, she went into a rage. He raged back. SUCCESSFUL WOMAN? OR FAILURE?
Alexis’s rise in her company was fairly rapid given the glass ceiling atmosphere that permeated it. She’d had a perfect situation: A great job, a beautiful home, three really nice kids and a loving, attentive husband – or so it seemed. When we met her, the veneer had crumbled and her marriage had fallen apart.

TOUGH AND RUDE, HE ASKS,
“HOW CAN I SAVE MY MARRIAGE?
Jake was rough, tough, crude and rude; but he was in love with his wife. ”She used to have the hots for me, you know?” he said. “I was what you’d call a bad boy and she thought that was cool.”
“Were you really a bad boy?” I asked.
“Yea, in a way. I don’t do it no more, but I was into drugs – selling them, not using them. But I talked rough, you know? I never hit Karen or nothin’. I don’t believe in hitting women. I came from a family that wasn’t no model, nuclear thing. Us kids did our own thing and I was on the street most of the time. You get into wrong company that way, you know? Me and Karen hit it off, though, when she come to a party I was at. She was classy and I fell – hard. We started seeing each other. Her family said she lowered her standards when she hooked up with me. She did, too. So it blew me away when she said she’d marry me.

WEALTH AND MARRIAGE – DO THEY MIX?
If you want to get a buzz, read about Donald Trump, one of the most fascinating men in history who seems to have a penchant for not caring if he saves a marriage or not. Well, at least, not marriage to a woman. He does care abour saving his marriages to the loves of his life – building, acquiring things, and accumulating riches. Brilliant in business, he has built a financial empire worth billions despite several bankruptcies. And who wouldn’t be impressed with his Apprentice TV shows?
It’s interesting to us, as marriage and relationship advisors to note that, whereas Trump has been immensely productive in buying and selling hotels, casinos, clubs and almost anything else you can name, he’s been a flop when it comes to producing a lasting marriage with a woman. He’s managed to sire a passel of kids, including at least one, at the time of this writing, with his latest wife who is 24 years younger than he; and he has more than a few grandchildren.
As we noted, his passion is business and making money – not making wives happy. That’s evidenced by a statement he made: “I just know it’s very hard for them [his ex-wives] to compete because I do love what I do. I really love it.”
Sounds a little like talk show host, Larry King, doesn’t it? King has outdone Trump in the wedding bells arena, though. He’s on his 8th marriage that’s about to crumble – according to latest reports. There is no evidence of his trying to save any of those marriages (although latest reports say he and his wife have decided to make a go of it. We’ll see.). Trump, on the other hand, despite any other liaisons he’s had, is only on his 3rd legal hookup at the marital altar.

WE CAN’T TALK SO WHY TRY TO
SAVE THE MARRIAGE?
Anna was angry when she stalked up to us after a seminar with her husband trailing behind her. “Our marriage is in trouble because, frankly, Tyler won’t talk to me. If he ever does open his mouth, it’s only about him. He’s just like my dad. He wouldn’t talk, either.” Tyler’s response was, “I can’t get a word in edgewise. She always dominates the conversation. And if I do say anything, she finishes my thoughts for me or criticizes what I’ve said.”
Jackson’s problem was almost the same. “Alyssa refuses to join in with any of the conversations the kids and I have. We ask for her opinion but she acts bored or yawns. Sometimes she leaves the room. She acts irritated when we laugh. I want to keep this marriage, but she’s no fun.” Alyssa sighed deeply. “I enjoy hearing them,” she said. “It’s just that talking is not something I feel comfortable doing. WHEN A WOMAN HATES SEX?
Jarod was muscular, handsome and ready to walk – away from his marriage. “Christina hates sex,” he told us. “She’s been like that ever since our kids were born. Is there any way you can help me so I want to save this marriage instead of hitting the road?”

GET RID OF JEALOUSY
AND SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE
I’m jealous of my wife. There’s no reason for it.
I know I’m going to lose her if I don’t quit.

Olivia was jealous, too. She wasn’t jealous of her husband, Gavin, but she was jealous of any woman who looked at him. Gavin’s comment to us was, “She’s even jealous when I play with the kids. Frankly, I just want to run, but I need to save my marriage for their sake. If I left, she’s do everything she could to keep me from seeing them.”
Olivia refused to go to a professional in the mental health field or marriage counseling, but she liked our books, so Gavin thought that perhaps we could help her.
Gary was doing the same thing to his wife. Though she’d never been with anyone else, and although she made sure he was with her when she went anywhere and clearly was in love with the man – he was really jealous. It all came to a head when after church they got into a huge argument because she’d talked to a guy in their small group meeting. Yes, Gary had been right there in the room. No, they hadn’t been talking about anything but the preacher’s morning message. Yes, when Gary walked up, she pulled him in close and put her arm around him.
